A Poem From My Daughter

Doctor asked him, Are you the father? He wispered yes with a slight quiver. He saw me glistning gold under warm light He was scared, so I held his finger tight Dad asked me, how was it inside your mother? I cried louder saying it was much better. He beamed, you are daddy' princess right? Ah Dad! I have just arrived. Can't we just wait? Dad, take off the my cap, it is hot summer I would sleep good without that rather. My new dresses? before I wake up and fight He stacked all of them in my sight. Many said that I looked like my mother I winked at him, inside me I am you, father! Tell me stories now, I gestured him to sit next You know, I am busy sleeping in the night Mom kissed me while sleeping together wispered to Dad that I was such a dear. She asked me, whom do I love the most? I was like, clique mom! Is this you best? When I speak, I will shout loud and clear that I love both Mom & Dad forever! Enough of poetry, let me sleep now. Goodnight! S...

Marriage Mania 2

Marriage is always an event which is very near to one’s heart. So, many friends of mine read my previous article Marriage Mania and after that, there were many discussions that went on, with my school friends, with my college friends and with my colleagues. The talks filled with fear, expectations, experience and excitement. I am venting out those bottled up expressions and experiences from the otiose and yet essential talks I witnessed. A friend or relative’s marriage is the hub that gives access our imaginations, expectations and fear. It is when most of our friends get together. The common phrases that we hear in the marriage hall would be, “Nice couple right! – Bloody lucky chap – When is your marriage man? – Who is next in our group? – look at her, no-no-not her, the one in pink”. Along with this, there is a series of thoughts that crawl into every marriageable boy/girl’s mind and remain unexpressed. “When will I get married? Will I get a pretty/nice girl/boy? Will I get adjusted...

Law of Gravity in Life

In the year 2000 when I was in 8th Standard, we sat on the edge of stone pavement of our school to listen to the story of a friend of mine who had runaway from the school and was caught and brought back. He narrated his adventure, and the lines that caught my attention were these. He said, "I thought of Shobha Ma'm and was scared of English test paper. I was scared so much that I thought of committing suicide. But later I thought about death, what will it like to be dead. Where will I be? Will I go to heaven? What is heaven? But Earth is round, we have a Solar system? Where is this God." He had thought beyond his age. He had cried thinking of universe. He forgot English test paper results. He thought of 'nothingness' of human in this universe. Most of the time, these thoughts comes to our mind. What are we doing here? Why are we struggling so much? Who are we? Somebody has truly said,  an idle mind is a devil's workshop . The same thought strikes my mind wh...

Marriage Mania

Image
There used to be a time when I met my friends, I discussed about the books to refer. Then came a time when we discussed about what colleges to join and what courses to pursue. Again was a time, when we discussed on our jobs. Here comes the time again with a heavy load on its back to be discussed. The marriage. And this so-called marriageable age group has been a pray. The story unveils with every Spartan returning from home after a holiday, every Cinderella with a new shoe in the marriage hall, every dude struck with a blade of receding hairline, every cutie being strangled by an extra layer of fat, every nerd who is missing something real in life, every mamma's boy and daddy's girl think or at least forced to think on one thing. One destination. The Marriage. There are three groups prevailing in this age-group. First one says "I am interested", second says "Well, I gotta get settled first" and the third group says "I don't care. Actually, I ...

Cycle Savari - An Adventure to Remember

Image
It came to me as an impromptu invitation to be part of an adventurous cycle trip from my colleague Reyaz. This event plan was spread like a wild fire amongst other colleagues, with their friends and with their friend's friends. It summed up to a strength of 18 initially, including 4 in a car as rescue-team. Dealt with several mail-threads and reminders, the plan ended up as a ride to Manchanabele from IISC Bangalore with latter being the point for our rendezvous on the planned night. Amidst sleepy feeling we (I, Bheem & Ani with Vikas , Raghu & Naveen ) kick-started around 10:40PM and reached IISc Gate precisely at 11:30PM as planned. The cycle mechanic assembled cycles, we tested one after the other. Bugs on brakes/pedals/wheels/gears were reported & were fixed. Seats with out cushion was accentuated by all, but still we were helpless. It was a major bug that was adamant at taking us down after a few hours. It was temporarily decorated with towels, blankets etc....

Baby Girl - Give Me a Chance To Live.

Image
They say that everyone is born here with a reason and a purpose. I heard today, a family in the village where my Aunt is a school teacher were gifted with a baby girl. Unfortunately, the insane parents don't want to raise the kid. They needed another son, not a daughter. It is just painful to read or watch episodes about female foeticides and female child abandonment. Now, it is even more heart churning to watch and hear these thing in your vicinity and yet do nothing but watch. The parent have 3 daughters and a son, and needed one more son. But the God placed a beautiful girl in her mother's womb. Today, is the baby's day two in this world. And already it is rejected. It irked me even more when I heard that the mother of the child herself is adamant in abandoning the child. I felt like reminding her that she is also a female. The parents are not ready to keep the child for even a day. They are pestering the adopters to take the child soon. Even not willing to bring th...

A Simple Change in Our Attitude Can Save a Lot

I remember vaguely, there was a 'Science club' which ran for few months in my school. During a club meeting, my School teacher Jayabharathi m'm addressed us for a few minutes on 'Going Green and Saving the Nature'. It still amuses me to recall that she carried a steel glass in her bag to avoid using a paper glass and her firm decision not to use plastic papers.  She said " My husband always tells me not to do these silly things. He says there are millions of fools out there who are just not worried about saving the environment. So why bother? For that I replied, 'I am happy, at least one fool out of millions is removed .'"  This event didn't impact me profoundly but it tried convincing me to be socially responsible. A little. I felt there are several ways a person can attribute to save an environment without any social boycotts or embarrassments. It irritates me to see a person who leaves a room lit with no purpose or a geyser switche...

What Will They Think Of Me?

I always wanted to express what I feel about this question for a long time. I have seen several types of people, those who don't care about what others would think, those who are redundantly cautious about the surrounding, those who wind up in tormenting themselves with guilt for doing nothing, those who are reckless & careless even after being unpleasant to others and those who are reclusive and act as if they don't belong to the world. After all, this is what a society is composed of, Isn't it? Or else how would there be fun. We are human beings and we are known for a social life. We embarked a society and colored it with a few protocols and trends to follow, a few people to love, few people to hate, few to guide and a few to misguide, few to tease and a few to appreciate. After a while we realized that I and you are a part of this. Individual identity was highlighted. We felt, it was good to create an impression in the society. We turned actors, poets, authors, ...

Good Old Memories of Republic Day Celebration

Today morning, I reached Shimoga, covered completely yet shivering and walking groggily amidst the mist. As per my regular protocol, I continued walking until I reached my home and watched the changing city.  In a while I witnessed a group of kids, all dressed in white and white. Some wore a cute smile with a broken tooth and others wore ribbon of Saffron-White-Green on their wrist. A plastic straw hoisted with the shining plastic National Flag was erect with pride and a proud badge on the shirt pocket added extra pride to the puffed chest. Yes, today is Republic Day Celebration. Hence, I failed to resist myself being wallowed up into the ocean of  good old memories of my School days. Few years back, while I studied in the Govt school of my village, I possessed the same patriotic feeling in the celebration of these national festivals that I witnessed today. I still possess the same, but in a different perspective. This day's national anthem was always sung with added melody...

A Letter By Year 2011

Dear All, I still remember the moment, crinkles of curiosity on the forehead of millions of you, waiting for all the needles of the clock to tick upwards for 00:00:00 AM, towards the heaven. Your welcome was amazing, the best thing that happened in my whole life. I was welcomed to your world as Jan 1st 2011. I remember, it was a Saturday then. I witnessed balloons, promises, cakes, resolutions, kisses, love, crackers, joy, parties, ecstasy, tear, fear and care.An amazing celebration, that you guys have been endeavoring every time marking as the token of love for us for entering your life. I never thought this day would come. The farewell day. I would like to share the greatest feeling that I have cherished and shared with all of you in my lifetime. Every single day of the last 365 days were adding new experience into your life and into my life. An experience bucket filled with all possible combinations of, known and unknown emotions to the mankind. You tried hard to remember me at...

Silver Jubilee Celebration Hangover

Image
Like the smell of earth after first rain, like the tender morning sunshine, like the breeze near the beach, JNVG exulted in Silver Jubilee Celebration. The torchbearers (core committee members) were responsible for the successful completion of this magnificent gala . Hats off to you guys.   I am ಮಂದಿರ.... ಕುವೆಂಪು ರಂಗ ಮಂದಿರ..... . The red carpet was rolled down for all the Gurus who had gathered from all over the country to bless their beloved disciples again, at Kuvempu Rangamandira. This enormous auditorium was lit with excitation at 4pm on 3rd Dec 2011. Then arrived the teachers, who had nurtured and nourished us into well human beings. A proud beaming smile and twinkling eyes embellished every single face of our teachers. Our basic intro with the teachers, their honest attempt in recognition of our face and proud appreciation for the achievement that we have accomplished were simply emotional. Once-upon-a-time-our-hero senior's dresses which ranged from ಕರಿ ಸೂಟ್...

Shall I Go To JNVG Alumni Or Not ?

The day I passed out from the school in 2005 there was a question being asked by a classmate of mine. "When are you coming back to the school", she said. "I will see. I will be here if I get into a good college." I speculated with naivety. Well, I always wanted to be a Doctor but (un)fortunately ended up being an Engineer. The implication of the above conversation is neither intended at I choosing B.Tech instead of MBBS (I will tell you if you call me. :-)) nor about the girl who asked the question(I won't tell the name even if you call me again and again). It is about the hurdles that stops us from traveling an extra mile to visit the school. We are busy people, we have job, we have bosses, some have two types of bosses (home+office), some have home-boss as their office-boss , some have kids, some have college, many have attendance-shortage , some have exams (don't think about missing this) and some have no-time . For the matter of fact, we(mos...

JNVG Reunion : Annual Alumni Sports Day

On 6th Nov 2011, there was an event organized at 12.971, 77.4830 by a bunch of old boys of JNVG. They all called it ' Annual Alumni Sports Day' . I present you, the ravishing moments of the event. Every memory of friendship shared, even for a short time, is a treasure, like sunshine and warmth in our lives, like a cool breeze on a humid day, like a shower of rain refreshing the earth. There is absolutely an unique and irrepressible feeling of happiness being delivered to us after meeting our friends. I was late to the event as I am cursed by Hypnos (The God of Sleep) and I ought to serve him little more compared to others. The hugs, Hi-Fis, handshakes, kicks and "Oye-Oye" from our batch mates welcomed me. Some people had turned fat, some were skinny and the rest had remained same. Smiling and beckoning all the seniors, I-know-you-but-still-I-don't-know-you internal quotes whenever juniors greeted us and Its-okay-chill-dear reciprocation to the senior g...

Is God Himself Greedy and Illogical?

I confess to say that I am a seasonal theist and atheist. I sometimes believe and sometimes criticize God like everyone else do. Being born in a family which firmly believed in this super power always enforced me to inculcate all the divinely related fantasies. The belief of God had a profound impact on me and I always saw things as an outcome of wimps and fancies of our dear God. I was forced to wash myself every single evening and lit Diya and pray God. Well, I raise no question against this beautiful culture that India is always proud of. But the subtle part of my brain always acted as a cynic, always interrogated on his existence and cardinal principles laid by him.  Let me assume the whole world believes in God ! I remember a story that I had read during my childhood reckoning Lord Krishna's wit. There were two people living in a village. One was pathetically poor and owned a cow for his livelihood and other was a landlord and owned huge wealth. The po...

ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು Life - ಗಾಂಚಲಿ ಬಿಡಿ, ಕನ್ನಡ ಮಾತಾಡಿ !!

It has been 1 year and 3 months of my official Bengaluru life apart from the not-so-often visits during my college days. I write this representing all those deeply hurt Kannadigas who are fed up seeing Ekkada Ennada Dudes Bhaiyaas everywhere in the city. I was just wondering, living at a place like Tin Factory which is gulped completely by Tamils leaving no room for Kannada and some semi-passionate Kannadigas like me. I live here and I feel, I am out state and it pisses me off!  Not so long ago, when I got out of the bus at Majestic, I was asked by an auto guy, "Enga poda ....blah blah.. blah". When I stared at him with my sleepy eyes with an acknowledgement saying Dammit, you are in K'taka , he switched to Telugu and later Hindi.  "Kannaaadaaa..!" I retorted. The little passion in me for Kannada was set on ablaze.  After my reply he asked me, "ಎಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಹೋಗ್ಬೇಕು ಗುರು?" I said (actually sang), "ಎಲ್ಲಿಗೂ... ಇಲ್ಲಾ... ! ". I loved myself for prote...

Goobe Falls Version 2.4 Alias Devra Falls

As every super hero has an amazing story about the evolution of his powers, we have a new desi super hero bestowed with eccentric qualities to evaporate water through his thoughts. Late in the year 2000+ a young dude from Harnahalli was sleeping on his desk in a classroom. It was night, dark and scary. In a split second he felt a pain on his arm and noticed that an owl (ಗೂಬೆ) had bitten him (There is absolutely no resemblance  with Spiderman story, if so, then its ಕಾಕತಾಳಿಯ ಅಷ್ಟೇ ). The real power of Goobe was witnessed when his classmates took him to a NK trip and noticed that the water falls was completely dry. All the people who were amused by his extraordinary power dedicated his name to the water falls as ಗೂಬೆ  Falls. The story continued again....TK falls was his next target. Through the huge activities that were going on Facebook, the FB mates decided to plan for a trip to TK Falls (The original name which is obsolete now) and it was again initiated by Goo...

10.4 Furlong Skandagiri

[Note: Words with * symbols are quoted with little explanation at the bottom] After the most successful ಗೂಬೆ  Falls trip, the chairman of the owl committee again planned another trip. This time he was selfish, he planned a night trip so that he could see everything clearly. It turned to be his planned victory  with a total count of 20 people even though 19 were present physically (Bheema* only knows who was that extra person whom Goobe counted all the time). I joined all at Benaganahalli stop and witnessed half sleepy and half over enthusiastic folks. We reached Skandagiri at 3:50 AM and Pajji asked for our suggestion to hire a Guide, and I responded spontaneously with a YES, coz I heard it as Kite. That moment I was asked to shut up. Just looking at the slope and the altitude of ಸ್ಕಂದಗಿರಿ, as a budding engineer Mr.Pajji was popped out with some thought, like a flash of genius from his ಗೂಬೆ  brain. And he called it as Furlong** . Right then Vasa used that unit with al...

Incredible Story of 1-1-11

Image
It all started with the initiation by Sunni to throw some "N thousand" worth party to all the J13 guys who were after him like the blood thirsty vampires. After the initiation to meet up by Anandapaa at Facebook, many people got to know about the party by Sunni and every one rushed towards  one of the pure kannadiga's area Hampinar (nr Vijaynagar). Hearing this flooded message and to impress some X person, Sunni doubled his party budget to 2N thousand. Because of the heavy contribution by the Bangalore traffic and as usual weak planning, the party started at unknown time and ended at 11:45PM. Unluckily I was born on the same day the new year is born. I turned to be "The Victim" of the start of the year 2011. My so called best friends were waiting to clot a part of the 5 liter blood flowing in my body with their highly starving legs covered with branded shoes. These 24 people (I exclude one who carried my wallet and mobile) performed most inhumane act exactly ...

Top 10 Changes after we passed out from JNVG

It has been 5 years and we are among the elite group of JNVG i.e Alum ni and there has been a lot changes in the school after our pass out from the school. Along with  sweet memories at the school during the Milana, we witnessed a lot changes in  the school. Here I present top 10 changes that changes that I remember. NOTE: The order of ranking is not considered here, it is all random :-) MKP Sir's high (100%) tolerance to "Okay.. okay " . He dint use  okay even single time in his 5-10 min welcome speech. Earlier in 2005 he had a record of using Okay some 40 times in 35 min class period. What an improvement right..? There was a time when Hedge sir use the sharpness of Wilkinson blade to throw some shine on the basins of Preethi (Shivalik during our days) house. Those basins are replaced with some good looking tiles now. During the summer days we, the so called seniors (XI and XII ) guys used to change the orientation of the cots to get some cool air from the all...

Milana 2010 : Exclusively for Batch J -13 (1998 - 2005)

This was the most incredible and the most memorable event of my life. We the 13th batch JNVGians decided to meet on 4th and 5th at school. I miss every single second that we spent together. Well, the top rated quote during our reunion was , " OH MY GOSH.. I was like stunned..!!" . The credit goes to Ms. Swathi who quoted this line in her genuine excitement seeing me and JM at tin factory. I dint know, that would be the top most dialogue among our friends succeeding  Babu's successful line, " Myself Babu Yaar..! !". Every single reply during put stay included this sentence. I miss the journey in the train on 3rd night where I met all my J13 guys. Our journey started with the typical Su..s.. Suresh and Ra..r... Ramesh.... style of greeting. Like the mummy's of Pyramid coming to life after the drinking blood, our nick names were gives names, starting from BMCM of Vijaynagar to Solle of Chennai  and reaching everyone one in between. The most funniest and s...
