Law of Gravity in Life

In the year 2000 when I was in 8th Standard, we sat on the edge of stone pavement of our school to listen to the story of a friend of mine who had runaway from the school and was caught and brought back. He narrated his adventure, and the lines that caught my attention were these. He said, "I thought of Shobha Ma'm and was scared of English test paper. I was scared so much that I thought of committing suicide. But later I thought about death, what will it like to be dead. Where will I be? Will I go to heaven? What is heaven? But Earth is round, we have a Solar system? Where is this God." He had thought beyond his age. He had cried thinking of universe. He forgot English test paper results. He thought of 'nothingness' of human in this universe. Most of the time, these thoughts comes to our mind. What are we doing here? Why are we struggling so much? Who are we?

Somebody has truly said, an idle mind is a devil's workshop. The same thought strikes my mind whenever I am alone, when I sit on a bench in a park or when I loaf around a busy street. I get fascinated by the power of an indispensable part of our body, The brain. I think of the emotions exhibited by it. Our ability to perceive them. Thinking is a vital part of our life, it defines our race. But the thing that matter is "how you think". Some think, life is a heaven and some other as hell. Some people think that life is nothing and they choose sainthood, some go insane, some die and some cease to live. They all fail to admire the greatest gift a mankind has been bestowed with, To feel. To feel everything that is around us. Our submission to Navarasa. Love. Joy. Wonder. Peace. Anger. Courage. Sadness. Fear. Disgust. And I was told in my school days, one who want to attain Moksa or liberation should forfeit submission to Navarasa. I never understood the logic behind it. Isn't it obvious that we are filled with these emotions for a reason? To live.

They say, the key to happiness is peace. People who go in search of peace believe it is implicit to let behind all the attachments, feelings and materialistic belongings. They turn saints, they meditate, they rein their unbridled mind. They attain happiness by imbibing 'nothingness' into their soul. Hollowness with nothingness would seem like liberation, hence they preach saying it is the final destination. Others follow them. I wonder, how can one not feel the beautiful emotions that we exhibit every now and then? How can one go after nothingness by letting go everything that we possess? The desire, hunger, anger on the loved one, fear of losing, taste of sugar, tickling sensation by a baby saliva on your neck, chills entering cold water, salty taste of your tear, itches giving your pleasure, goosebumps you get hearing the anthem, heart race when you fight someone, butterflies in the stomach when you are caught, ecstasy when her hairs strike your face, gratitude in a needy's eyes after a help, pain that you withstand after your fall, sting of an ant, scent of first rain, sound of tides, eagerness to live and fear of death. Emotions define us. That is what we are, then why let go of them.

The same emotions turn catastrophic if handled carelessly. When we fail to balance or weigh them, we wallow up in misery. Balance among victory and defeat, joy and sorrow, apathy and sympathy, courage and cowardice, etc and ~etc. It is always easier said that done, it has be practiced.  When everything is balanced, peace lies around you like a center of gravity. Even if one fail to balance, let it flow through you. They give you experience & teach you to live better. There is a Kannada proverb, Kasta manushyanige barde mattenu marakke baratta?- Will ever misery afflict a tree instead of a man?
According to physics every object that has mass possess gravity. Gravity has its boundary and it makes a difference in its boundary. If Sun would have thought itself as a tiny star lost amongst the billions and wouldn't have shined. There would have been neither I nor you. Gravity in life is a simple concept that stitches us together and lets you make a difference with your surrounding, with you loved ones, with your followers and with yourself. We involuntarily obey it by impressing people, by expressing our thought, by spreading happiness, by sharing stories, by making history, by sticking around together, by living and letting other to live. And by believing that you have an universe with yourself as The Center.
